Katie “The Marathon Dreamer” Black

Katie Black is a 5th-grade teacher at Whitehall Elementary, where her daily mission is to channel the endless energy of 10-year-olds (or as she calls them, tiny TikTok stars in training). As a self-proclaimed “professional cat herder,” she’s mastered the art of keeping the classroom organised, fun, and full of laughter—most of the time.

When she’s not grading papers or chasing down runaway math assignments, Katie is out running—sometimes literally, sometimes metaphorically away from responsibilities. (Don’t worry, it’s for the endorphins… and the snacks.) A proud Disney fanatic, Katie is also a fiancé who’s already planning the next vacation before finishing the last, and the loving dog mom to Nala, her miniature dachshund who rules the house from the comfort of Katie’s lap.

Katie’s marathon? It’s not the 26.2 miles kind—it’s the one that ends with ice cream, good vibes, and lots of joy. Her love for life, her students, and her faith keeps her sprinting forward, bringing energy and encouragement wherever she goes, especially at Sidewalk Sunday School.

At Sidewalk Sunday School, Katie brings her signature mix of laughter and love to every Saturday, connecting with kids and reminding them of the hope and joy found in Jesus. Whether she’s leading a game, telling stories, or handing out high-fives, Katie’s goal is simple: to make sure every kid feels cherished, confident, and ready to shine.
